History
Shapiro
and Duncan is the culmination of three generations of plumbers
and mechanical contractors. In the mid-30's Jake Shapiro started
J. Shapiro Plumbing & Heating in Washington, D.C. After Jake
retired, his son, David, a mechanical engineer, organized
a merit shop mechanical contracting company in 1976, known
as Shapiro & Duncan, Inc. David continued to develop his father's
work ethic that focused on excellence in performance. Requiring
a commitment from all employees to provide each client with
superior service and high quality work, Shapiro & Duncan quickly
became known as offering its customers the best mechanical
value in the area.
From the
start, Shapiro & Duncan built a solid reputation in complex
and demanding renovation projects. In the early 90's, David
passed the torch to his sons, Jerry and Sheldon, both graduate
engineers from the University of Maryland. They quickly brought
the firm into the new millennium by developing a thorough
and professional approach to mechanical contracting. They
sought, hired and developed a team of the most talented and
knowledgeable professionals in the industry, then trained
and equipped them with the latest in computer hardware, software,
tools, and equipment. Under their guidance, Shapiro & Duncan
continued to complete the same varied projects, but significantly
increased the volume of work and project size, and added new
construction, office buildings, government, and industrial
development projects to its portfolio.
Today,
Shapiro & Duncan has successfully completed nearly 2,000 projects.
Our main office in Rockville houses our management (including
IT, purchasing, education, safety, accounting and human resources)
and construction groups (estimators, project managers and
support personnel), and our service department and design-build
teams. In Beltsville, we have our fully staffed and equipped
fabrication shop.
During
our long history spanning more than three generations, Shapiro
& Duncan has attained an unrivaled reputation for superior
performance on any type of commercial mechanical project.
We continue to be the "Mechanical Contractor of Choice"
for schools, commercial and government buildings, and the
preferred contractor for complex projects, especially for
those that require demanding performance or unusual time constraints.
We are living proof that our reputation is built from our
people and their performance. Project after project, over
and over, "Our People Perform."
