UNIVERSITY
OF MARYLAND
INN & CONFERENCE CENTER
Adelphi, Maryland
Currently,
the University of Maryland has contracted for a 5-story addition
to their Inn & Conference Center. The new 100,000 SF facility
includes 127 guest rooms and 7 meeting rooms, and completion
is scheduled for December 2003.
Shapiro
& Duncan conducted a value engineering evaluation,
which resulted in a substantial cost saving by reducing the
number of energy recovery units from seven to five and eliminating
the procurement of a new cooling tower and chiller by utilizing
existing services from the main mechanical equipment.
Shapiro
& Duncan is responsible for installation of the HVAC system,
which includes:
- Five
Heatex energy recovery units (plate air-to-air);
- 26
air handling units (AHUs);
- 148
4-pipe fan coil units;
- One
heating plate/frame heat exchanger;
- One
steam-to-water converter;
- Eight
end-suction base-mounted pumps; and
- Miscellaneous
fans.
