Building Project Sample
901 NEW YORK AVENUE
Washington, D.C.
Shapiro & Duncan was awarded the highly prestigious “Excellence in Construction” award from the Metro Washington Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) for their mechanical work in the construction of this 18 month fast-track office complex in downtown Washington, D.C.
The state-of-art high efficiency HVAC system included 23 custom-made Temtrol core variable volume (VAV) air-handling units (AHU) with chilled water coils. The penthouse level of the building contained separate chilled, heating, and condenser water plants.
Serving all of the office areas, VAV boxes, some with electric reheat coils, are individually controlled through a digital energy management system. Variable frequency drive motor control centers are used to modulate the motor speeds on all AHU fans and chilled water, heating water, and condenser water pumps according to demand.
Shapiro & Duncan received high praise for their exceedingly fine on-site workmanship and for the extraordinary quality of their pre-fabricated pipe assemblies. In addition, S&D received special commendation for leading the accelerated efforts to complete the highly complicated coordination drawings for the HVAC piping and equipment, plumbing, sheet metal, sprinkler systems, and controls including the energy management.
