Safety

Safety is a major priority at Shapiro & Duncan.
Shapiro & Duncan provides a safe and healthy workplace, free from all recognized hazards. We stress proactive safety awareness practices. Because this is so important to us, we established a Safety Department with a full-time Safety Director, who is responsible for our written policy, program review, training, site inspections, safety incentive award program, and a yearly safety audit.

Shapiro & Duncan has received numerous safety awards. Among them are:

Shapiro & Duncan Inc., received the highest safety award posbbile, "The 2005 Platinum Safety Award" from the Washington Metropolitan and Virginia Chapters of the Associated Builders and Contractors.

Shapiro & Duncan, Inc. received The 2004 Gold Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) Award” from Associated Builders and Contractors. Shapiro & Duncan, Inc. won the 2003 “Carson V. Carlisle Jr. Award” for Safety from the DC Metropolitan Subcontractors Association.

Training
To maintain a safe work environment, it is essential to train employees in safe work practices. Through our Safety Department, we protect workers by setting up and enforcing workplace safety and health standards. Our Safety Department provides our employees with safety and health information, assistance, and training in the following areas:

  • Lock Out/Tag Out

Tool Box Talks
Shapiro & Duncan strives to meet and exceed all OSHA guidelines. We require both employees and subcontractors, who work with us, to attend weekly "Tool Box Talks."
